Jaipur City Guide


Also known as the ‘Pink City’, Jaipur is a place of kings, queens and legends. It is the capital city of the desert state of India, Rajasthan. Built in the 18th century by the king Sawai Jai Singh, Jaipur is the largest city in Rajasthan and also India’s first planned city. It is beautiful place that can be considered a perfect mirror to the Indian tradition and culture.

This land of fort and palaces is a top tourist destination in India. People from all over the world love to bask in the glory of this city which smells royalty everywhere. With its magnificent historical places such as the Amber Fort, Jaigarh Fort, Naharagarh Fort, City Palace and Jal Mahal etc. Jaipur leaves its visitors mesmerized to the core. The art and architecture of these great structures is a perfect treat to eyes and a great blow to one’s mind. And the best part is that there are several legends associated with each monument that take you to the glorious days of the city’s past.

Jaipur is also a home to some great temples such as the Govind Deviji Temple, Moti Doongari, Lakshmi Narayan Temple, Akshardham Temple and Jain Mandir. Tourists also like going to Galtaji which is an ancient Hindu pilgrimage site situated 10 kilometers from Jaipur on the Jaipur-Agra highway near Sisodia Rani Garden.

The historical monument Jantar Mantar is quite famous in Jaipur. It is the biggest of the five astronomical observatory build by Maharaja Jai Singh during the period 1727-1734 in north India. Similarly, the Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Breeze is another big pull. It is a palace that was built by Maharaja Sawai Singh as part of the City Palace as an extension of the Zenana (women) chamber. Not to forget is the popular museum of Jaipur- the Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing which is housed in a recently restored heritage haveli tucked into the back streets of old Amber.

Jaipur also boasts some huge gardens such as the Ram Niwas Garden, Central Museum (or Albert Hall), Zoological Garden, Sisodia Rani Palace and Garden, Vidyadhar Garden and the Central Park etc. These gardens are a delightful place to enjoy with your loved ones.

All those who visit Jaipur do not forget to carry some typical Rajasthani items with them. From furniture to clothes, everything is special in this Pink City. Similarly, the food at Jaipur is irresistible. The popular food items at Jaipur include Daal Baati, Rasmalai, Pyaz ki Kachori and Gangaur. There are some excellent venues like the Choki Dhani and Apno Gaon, the Loharu House and Natraj where you can taste the lip smacking Jaipur cuisine.

The best feature of Jaipur is that it is a place for the luxury as well as budget travelers.
